The historic Venice Simplon-Orient-Express has announced it is offering itineraries for the first time this December. The opulent vintage train will run ten one-night journeys during the month for bon vivants looking to spend the holiday season in sumptuous style.
From within a cozy carriage of plush velvet upholstery and chic Art Deco fittings, guests will be able to gaze out at a snowy winter wonderland speeding past the window.
Usually, the service runs between European cities from March to November. However, it is the first time the iconic train, operated by Belmond, is giving travelers the chance to experience a journey during the festive season, and it is set to be spectacular.
Travelers can begin their journey in Venice, a city that is quiet, mysterious and magical in winter, and arrive in the capital of elegance, Paris. On the way, guests can savor the gourmet cuisine in the dining car, be lulled by live piano music in Bar Car 3674 and snack on an indulgent midnight brunch.
The train will also depart from Florence, known for its remarkable art collections, and Verona, the city of Romeo and Juliet.
Itineraries will also leave from Paris and arrive in Venice, Verona and Florence just in time for travelers to experience a festive season in Italy’s most spectacular cities. The complete list of itineraries can be found here.
The overnight journeys start at $3,410 per person, which includes a private sleeper cabin, a four-course gourmet dinner, and after-dinner cocktails. Chef Jean Imbert has concocted a special winter-inspired seasonal menu to celebrate the December routes. Guests can also enjoy 24-hour butler service and unlimited Champagne.
Travelers have several leisurely hours in the morning to admire the scenic views from the windows before a lavish three-course lunch is served. Passengers disembark just after lunchtime at their final destination.
The Venice Simplon-Orient-Express is composed of 17 original restored train carriages from the 1920s and 30s. The locomotive offers historic cabins with shared bathrooms and six Grand Suites with private bathrooms.
From June 2023, eight new suites will be added to the range, each with a private marble ensuite bathroom. In addition, these suites will have a lounge area that converts into two twin beds or a double bed at night.
